About Ryan Kindred
Ryan Kindred is a Pittsburgh-based writer and social services worker. Ryan’s fiction and poetry grapple with the tension between masculinity, connectedness, and illness. He studied philosophy and psychology at SUNY Geneseo before pursuing a degree in writing. Ryan earned an MFA from Chatham University, where he received the Creative Excellence Award. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize & PEN/Dau Award. A complete list of his publications and accolades can be found on his CV. He previously published under the name RK Taylor.
Ryan has had various jobs in the social services. He has aided children with severe autism, helped to house the chronically homeless, and supported youth transitioning out of foster care. While studying at Chatham, Ryan taught student-inmates at the Allegheny County Jail through Words Without Walls. In both his writing and humanitarian praxis, he aims to use his influence to create a better world.
